Microneedling, Dry Needling, Needle-dermabrasion, Dry tattooing, Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), are names used to describe a tattoo procedure where the result of the healing process results in wrinkle and scar remodeling. The Dry Tattooing procedure is used to reduce acne scarring (pits, boxcars, & rolling scars), surgical scaring, burn contracture and trauma scaring. It is simple; it is safe (no complications) and our clients report that it consistently gives them good results.
How does Microneedling work (Collagen Induction Therapy)?
Collagen Induction Therapy procedure works by stimulating your own body’s collagen. Your body will start to naturally regenerate the skin, working below the surface in the dermis. New skin cells are generated and blood supply is enhanced. It improves the thickness of the dermis as well as the epidermis. This in return improves skin texture and reduces wrinkles. It also has a positive effect on hyper-pigmentation as well as hypo-pigmentation, new collagen fibres, improved blood supply and harmonies pigmentation. It will only take up to a few weeks before visible signs of regeneration are seen and the process will continue over the following months, providing you with a gradual and long lasting enhancement.
Scar Reduction Therapy
Scar Reduction Therapy procedure works by releasing old fibrotic scar tissue deep within the skin. Scar tissue is what creates visible scars on the skin’s surface. The treatment will repair the skin naturally, working below the surface in the dermis. This takes time as new collagen and elastin fibres are formed, softening scars, generating new skin cells and enhancing blood supply. Results can be seen within as little as a few weeks, and a total of 70-80% improvement of scars.
Is Microneedling Safe?
Yes, safe and suitable for all skin types, including thin skin and previously skin that has been lasered. There is no ablation to the epidermis therefore a simple and natural response of collagen is induced. All skin types that have pigmentation marks can be lightened. Skin is thickened, tightened and elasticity is restored.

Are Microneedling treatments painful?
Tolerance levels vary for all. Topical anesthetic creams are applied for individuals who wish to numb the skin pre-treatment. Anesthetic numbing agents are applied to the skin, most clients will say that they felt no pain or a slight sensation that was minimal and tolerable.
How should I prepare before for my treatment?
To minimize the possibility of adverse skin effects we recommend avoiding the following activities for at least 2 to 4 weeks prior to your treatment:
- Sun exposure (apply SPF 30 + sunscreen daily)
- Solariums (professional spray tanning)
- Topical fake tans
- Prescription strength exfoliates
- AHA’s (Glycolic Acid), Retinol, acidic or “active” ingredients
- Dermal Fillers and/or Cosmetic Injectables
- Thick and clogging make ups
- Accutane (one year prior)
Please Note: For optimum treatment results to be achieved, paramedical skin care may be recommended to be used a few days prior to treatment. You will be advised during your initial skin consultation.
Are there any post treatment restrictions?
You will be advised of the proper post treatment care instructions during your consultation and again during your treatment. In most cases, once the redness has calmed down you are able to resume with your normal activities. It is best to treat the area with care as you would a mild sunburn.
Please avoid the following activities until the redness has calmed down:
- Use of prescription strength exfoliant creams
- AHA’s (Glycolic Acid), Retinol, acidic or “active” ingredients
- Swimming pools and spas with multiple chemicals/ chlorine
- Activities that cause excessive perspiration
- Dermal Fillers and/or Cosmetic Injectables (three months post)
Please avoid the following activities in between and post treatments:
- Sun exposure (apply SPF 30 + sunscreen daily on areas being treated)
- Solariums (cover all areas being treated)
Please Note: For optimum treatment results to be achieved, paramedical skin care may be recommended to be used post treatment. For example. An anti-inflammatory cleanser to soothe, hyaluronic acid to hydrate, copper to help heal.
Is Microneedling permanent?
Microneedling treatments are very effective and long lasting. Results may last for several years and Microneedling will provide significant benefits to concerned skin. However due to a combination of factors such as life style and free radical damage, maintenance treatments may be recommended. It is important to avoid excessive sun exposure and apply SPF 30+ sunscreen daily during and post treatments.
How do I know if Microneedling treatments are working for me?You will see real results during your treatment course. Your skin may initially look red a couple days post treatment and then shortly after the redness will start to minimize. The results will become more impressive with each successive treatment. Your skin’s overall texture and complexion will also improve throughout the treatment course. Clients are continually experiencing great results and value for money.
How many treatments will I need? For best results, on average we recommend completing 1 to 3 treatments. As the condition of skin and individual expectations will differ the number of treatments required may vary. Maintenance treatments may be recommended to be performed on the area for some clients based on the skin’s color, condition and personal lifestyle.
How do I know when to come in for my next treatment? On average we recommend treating the area 6 – 8 weeks apart. You will be scheduled for a 6 week assessment and based on your individual progress a recommendation; if needed, for a follow up treatment will be scheduled at that time.
How will I look in between the treatments?
If experienced, the inflammatory reaction of the skin is extremely short and fades significantly within hours from redness to pinkish (on average lasts 12 to 24 hours). In order to reduce visible redness, we recommend healing ointments, serums, peptides or hyaluronic acid after the procedure, and to protect the skin with zinc based sunscreen. We also recommend the use of the Jane Iredale mineral make-up to assist healing, and can be applied as early as the day after.
Are there any risks or side effects?
Immediately following a Microneedling treatment, clients may experience either slightly reddened or swollen skin. It feels somewhat like a mild sunburn. This effect is very normal and will disappear shortly after. Damage to the skin is very rare. As the tiny pricking channels close within minutes, and the treatments are performed under clinical conditions, post-op infections are very unlikely.
Will my medication affect my treatment?
Certain medications may affect your Microneedling treatment if they are photosensitive (such as Roaccutane and Retin A which can cause pigmentation). If you are taking any medications it is best to inform this information during your consultation so to ensure that you will receive the best possible treatment. Depending on the medication course, we may suggest performing any treatments at least 2 to 6 months post intake of medication.
Why Microneedling?
In contrast to all ablative techniques like laser and Fractional Laser treatments, Microneedling stimulates new tissue formation while constructively maintaining the skin intact. The skin does not get damaged and therefore will not go into a wound healing response.
